As an Architectural Lighting Designer at DLR Group you will be responsible for applying your architectural lighting design knowledge and Revit modelling skills in the realization of award-winning design projects. As part of our integrated design teams you create buildings that elevate the human experience through design.

Position Summary

Work within our Innovative Technology Design Group under our senior lighting design staff as part of an integrated studio model; prior experience in lighting design a plus. The candidate requires a strong willingness to understand all aspects of architectural lighting, both on the elemental level of spatial experience/atmosphere as well as on a technical level; including calculations and modeling. Project types include but are not limited to performing and cultural arts, historic renovations, healthcare, workplace environments, Government, and higher education. See some of our work at:


You will be responsible for:

  • Creating effective graphic communications for clients and colleagues to effectively convey complex conceptual design ideas.
  • You will design, develop and document various project types.
  • Additionally, you'll support design projects with exceptional design thinking, project imagery, design research, and project documentation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Be able to work and present ideas in a team environment as well as self-manage and self-motivate in a creative environment.
  • Possess a high level of proficiency in the production of graphic communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years Architectural lighting design or electrical engineering experience. Please include a resume and portfolio of design projects when applying, or Bachelor Degree in Architectural or Theatrical Lighting Design / Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, or Electrical Engineering
  • Intermediate and demonstrated ability in the use of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AGi32 (or other lighting simulation software), AutoCAD, and Revit (lighting fixture family creation is required).
  • Ability to do field measurements and on - site verification.
  • Familiarity with IESNA guidelines and lighting design best practices.
  • Basic understanding of the practice of architecture and architectural design protocols and methods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lighting Certified (LC)
