Senior Mechanical Engineer

The best integrated design firm in the world has an opening for a creative and innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design of mechanical systems for significant projects, including museums, performing arts centers, schools, higher education, and Federal projects. DLR Group’s recent clients include the Smithsonian Institution, the Architect of the Capitol, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Mt. Vernon Estate. In 2018, our work was recognized with an AIA Committee on the Environment award and ASHRAE technology awards. DLR Group is a 2018 Top 25 Consulting-Specifying Engineer MEP Giant.

Position Summary 

You will be responsible for leading the design process of mechanical building systems and preparing detailed mechanical engineering drawings and calculations. Responsibilities include management of engineers in an interdisciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will: 

  • Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of our integrated design process
  • Create and coordinate documents using Revit
  • Perform mechanical/HVAC calculations and code research
  • Write and review specifications
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs and submittals
  • Conduct site visits
  • Manage mechanical project teams and/or interdisciplinary project teams
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives with thought leadership
  • Champion sustainable design values

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 8+ years of experience working as a buildings mechanical engineer
  • Deep knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • LEED accreditation
  • Experience with BIM including Autodesk Revit workflow
  • Building energy modeling experience
  • Plumbing and fire protection experience
