Project Designer

The best integrated design firm in the world has an opening for an entry level Project Designer with a theatrical design background.

As a Project Designer at DLR Group | Westlake Reed Leskosky, you would join the Innovative Technology Design Group (ITDG), a team of Audiovisual, Theatrical, Acoustic, Architectural Lighting, and IT designers committed to creating performance and gallery spaces whose function is as beautiful as their appearance, within a firm of designers, engineers, and architects working to elevate the human experience through design. 

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will support ITDG designers by modeling components; writing technical documentation; researching materials and equipment; organizing project files; interpreting IBC, NFPA, and OSHA code; and communicating with other members of the design/engineering team.

The Successful candidate will:

  • Have excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Be able to work and present ideas in a team environment as well as self-manage and self-motivate in a creative environment.
  • Possess a high level of proficiency in the production of graphic communication.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor Degree (or higher) in Theatrical Technology/Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and AutoCAD skills.
  • An understanding of theatrical rigging, dimming systems, lighting, drapery, and other theater technical systems with a strong understanding of aesthetics.
  • Ability to do field measurements and on-site verification.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in AutoDesk Revit.
  • Knowledge of theatrical lighting design and control systems.
  • Familiarity with PLASA/ESTA guidelines and best practices.
  • Previous experience in architecture or architectural related fields having working knowledge of specifications writing and design/construction phases.
  • Understanding of green design methods a plus.
  • ETCP Certification a plus.
