DLR Group's Texas team has an opening for an Architectural Designer. We operate within a hybrid work model, supporting flexibility between office time and work from home. Considering this model, this role could be based in the following cities:

  • Austin
  • Dallas
  • Houston

Position Summary

As an Architectural Designer at DLR Group, you will collaborate with our cross-functional design teams to develop designs from conception through design development, prepare construction documents, specifications, team coordination, and support the project team through construction administration for a variety of project types and sizes. As part of our integrated design teams, you will create buildings that elevate the human experience through design.

You will partner directly with the Project Manager to ensure the financial health of the project, the quality of project documents, claim prevention, team collaboration and communication. Additionally, you will lead the cross-functional design disciplines in developing technical solutions.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide planning, design, and coordination of different size projects up to large complex projects.
  • Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and designs as well as carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Coordinate drawings and specifications directly with the specification writer and assist in preparing sections as assigned.
  • Engage and guide innovative idea generation within the integrated team in pursuit of design excellence.
  • Review cost estimates for alignment with the design.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced design / architectural staff.
  • Responsible for applying DLR Group practice standards to project deliverables across the project team.
  • Demonstrate a strong foundation of comprehensive design and technical skillsets.
  • Engage and guide innovative idea generation within the integrated team in pursuit of design excellence.
  • Actively lead collaboration at project and integrated team level by generating design ideas and solutions.
  • Effectively communicate with project team members through timely and appropriate written, oral and visual means.
  • Engage peers and specialty experts to proactively develop holistic solutions.
  • Participate in client presentations.
  • Meet deliverable deadlines to maintain overall project schedule.
  • Manage time in alignment with project workplan.
  • Understand construction and material costs in alignment with project budget.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional Degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 3-10 years of professional experience in a commercial architecture firm
  • Proficiency with computer drawing, modeling, and rendering software; intermediate to advanced Revit experience is required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Positive and entrepreneurial spirit underlined by a strong work ethic
  • Desire to continually learn, grow, and pursue design excellence in a fun environment
  • Proficient in executing technical drawings and construction documents
  • Experience with exterior architecture in addition to full coordination and integration with Interior Design and Engineering disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sustainability Certification/Accreditation (LEED, WELL, etc.) and a demonstrated interest in sustainable building design
  • Skilled in hand drawing techniques that communicate visually
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, such as Grasshopper and/or SketchUp
  • Proficiency with visualization software, such as Lumion or Enscape
  • Knowledge of QA/QC process and building codes
