DLR Group's Hospitality sector has an opening for a Senior Interior Designer in our Chicago office. We operate within a hybrid work model, supporting flexibility between office time and work from home.

Position Summary

As a Senior Interior Designer, you will be responsible for collaborating with team members and design directors in leading the interior design of hospitality projects from concept and schematic design through construction administration. You will be the lead designer on projects ranging in size and complexity. You will develop space plans, three dimensional concepts, visual presentations, materials palettes, and be involved in all aspects of construction documentation. This role requires an integrated mindset working collaboratively with clients, contractors, vendors and other DLR Group team members.

In this role you will lead project design efforts, client interactions, and presentations. You will mentor staff, fostering a work environment that emphasizes mutual respect, learning, communication, and collaboration. You will work with Global Sector Leaders, Region Leaders, and sector-based staff to enable collaborative pursuits, awards, and execution of work.

The successful candidate will:

  • Determine vision and direction for design concepts and presentations.
  • Possess strong creative design and drawing skills; graphic and oral design presentation skills; space planning and three-dimensional, conceptual design thinking; experience in the aesthetic and functional aspects of materials and furnishings selection and specification
  • Be an effective and influential communicator with clients, team members, and vendors.
  • Have solid understanding of industry standards, construction methods, and technical systems at large.
  • Have a deep understanding of the research underpinning the Evidence Based Design solutions and work to generate design support tools.
  • Be a DLR Group ambassador and industry thought leader through public speaking engagements, publications, and networking at industry events.
  • Contribute to the development of construction documents and specifications; may provide a QA/QC role.
  • Work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices.
  • Provide thought-leadership and expertise throughout all phases of the design process.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in the commercial interior design/interior architecture industry with a keen understanding of hospitality projects, standards, and practices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or equivalent
  • Ability to work both independently and effectively in a cross-disciplinary team atmosphere and across multiple offices
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support project tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NCIDQ Credentials (or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling
